Sown To Grow
Sown to Grow systematizes a process that regularly checks in with students around their well being to ensure their mental health needs are met and that they feel inclusion and belonging at school. Research shows that students who feel belonging in their school communities have increased social emotional and academic outcomes. Prior systems, like CHKS, are only implemented once a year, not allowing students and adults to be in consistent communication. Sown to Grow platform is designed to support student to adult relationships and COST teams to respond to student needs. Real time, student centered feedback on their well being.
Sound implementation of Sown to Grow is aligned with OUSD’s Strategic Action Plan: Initiative #3 Creating Joyful Schools, the Board Resolution Prioritizing Social Emotional Wellbeing, and our CASEL aligned Transformative SEL work areas and priorities.
Sown to Grown is a universal health screener used to support OUSD school sites in systematically checking in on students' well being, sense of belonging, and inclusion at their schools. Sown to Grow has 4 main components:
- An SEL (CHKS- like) survey
- Weekly SEL check ins (universal health screener)
- Weekly academic check ins
- Stand alone SEL lessons by grade level
