McClymonds High School HBCU Tour 2020

McClymonds High School HBCU Tour 2020

Help us raise money for the McClymonds High School HBCU Tour 2020!

Located in West Oakland, CA, McClymonds has a long tradition of brilliance, from Hall of Fame basketball player Bill Russell to MC Hammer. In an area with prestigious schools like UC Berkeley,  Stanford and San Francisco State,  however, our mostly black student population has shared that these local colleges and universities lack a large black student population. As a result, students are also seeking out colleges that represent and reflect black culture, history, entrepreneurship and struggle.

From March 30-April 3, McClymonds will be touring  7 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the South, including Morehouse College, Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University, Talladega, Fisk, Alabama A&M and Tennessee State University, as well as Martin Luther King Jr.ś home and a museum dedicated to his civil rights and anti-war work. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many of our students!

Hosted by Stepping in the Right Direction , this trip costs $1,800 per student and includes the following expenses:
- Roundtrip flight to Atlanta
- 4 nights of hotel stay
- charter bus service
- entrance to museums and other cultural sites
- food and general expenses

Funds donated will be distributed to each of our 8 students participating in the tour to cover as much of their costs as possible. We need these funds by February 29, 2020.

We thank you in advance for all of your loyal support of West Oakland students!
