  • 8/7/2022- FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL (2022-23)

Good Evening Westlake Warrior Eagle Scholars and Families.  This is your Principal, Ms. Taylor, with your first weekly update for the 2022-23 school year. I hope everyone had a safe, fun, relaxing summer. Tomorrow, Monday, August 8 is the first day of school. Here are a few reminders to ensure everyone has a smooth first day.

School starts at 8:30 AM and ends at 1:37 PM all week, Monday, August 8 through Friday, August 12.  When arriving at school, please have scholars enter through the back gate onto the blacktop.  The gate will open at 8:00 AM.  All scholars should find their respective grade-level table and pick up a new copy of their class schedule (even if you picked it up at Orientation). Scholars can be dropped off and picked up in the parking lot or the front of the school. Please leave parking spaces for staff that are arriving in the mornings. Just a reminder to not double park on Harrison Street as we want everyone to be safe when being dropped off and picked up from school.

At-Home COVID Testing: All scholars should have taken their 1st At-Home COVID Test on Friday, August 5. We are asking that scholars take their 2nd At-Home COVID Test TODAY to prepare for school tomorrow. NOTE: Please do not bring administered COVID Tests to school. If your child tested positive we are asking that you please call the main office for further instructions. Otherwise, scholars can report to school if they got a negative test result. Just a reminder that masks are strongly recommended to be worn by staff and scholars while indoors. We appreciate you all in supporting health and safety on campus.

Registration: If you did not complete the Data Confirmation on the Aeries Parent Portal please do so before the first day of school. If you recently enrolled at Westlake towards the end of last week and did not attend an Orientation session, we ask that you please go to the Registration Tables that will be set up on the blacktop to complete this process.

PE: Please note scholars will not be dressing for PE for the first few weeks of school. We will notify parents of when scholars should begin dressing. Therefore they will not need to bring their PE clothes with them to school until then.

Lockers: The main office will begin assigning lockers the week of August 22.  In order to be assigned a locker, the scholar must bring their own padlock. Please be on the lookout for announcements concerning locker assignments.

Envisioneers Afterschool Program: If you submitted your application during Orientation your scholar can start the After School Program on Monday, August 8. Any applications received after last week will be placed on the waiting list until further notice. You will be notified by Envisioneers staff as to when the waitlisted scholars can begin attending the program.

    Important Upcoming Dates
Mon. August 8- First Day of School, Minimum Day Schedule all week, Dismissal at 1:37 PM

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need assistance with anything by calling the main office at (510) 879-2213 or emailing a staff member directly. For your convenience this information will be posted to our school website for your review.

Westlake Distance Learning Google Website: We are pleased to announce the Westlake Distance Learning Google website.  This website will host all information for Distance Learning at Westlake.  We will be sending out the link to this “Westlake Access Only” website in the next few days.  Information will be organized by grade level with Zoom links and google classroom codes by teacher.  The Home Page will have general school information including this weekly update, upcoming events and other important information for families.  We think this site will make our Distance Learning experience for all scholars and families much easier and more streamlined.

Tech/Materials Distribution: We are awaiting the arrival of just a few more instructional materials and then we will be ready for distribution.  We are hoping to be able to distribute materials by the end of the next week.  Stay tuned for more details.

Distance Learning Schedule Updates: Please note that we have pushed Advisory out for another week.  Advisory will begin Monday, August 24 instead of Monday, August 17.  If your scholar is experiencing issues with logging into their Zoom class please have your scholar email their immediate teacher for support.  We thank you for your patience and understanding.
