Deadline for high schools to enter the Alameda County Poetry Out Loud Competition


Each March, The California Arts Council sponsors a Poetry Out Loud (POL) student recitation contest that encourages the nation's youth to learn about great poetry throughmemorization and recitation. Each county holds a regional competition. Alameda County's POL competition is Feb 13 at the Alameda County Arts Commission office in Oakland. The deadline for high schools to sign up for POL is Jan. 18, with school competition to be concluded by the end of January. Each school will send one winner to the county competition. Cash prizes.Any high school or continuation/detention school student is eligible to compete in POL—as are home school students, etc. Students can request to be part of POL too.
