The Expanded Learning Elementary School Sports Program is in support of OUSD's Strategic Plan to create Joyful Schools; Reimagining Schools to be Places of Joy, Inclusion, and Beauty.
OAL Middle School Sports
Our Mission
The Mission of the Oakland Athletic League “OAL” Middle School Sports League is to provide all students with a robust sports program that is inclusive and equitable for all students to develop self-confidence, interpersonal skills, teamwork, and leadership by providing quality athletic educational programs.
OAL High School Sports
The Oakland Athletic League is comprised of the six comprehensive senior high schools in the Oakland Unified School District; Castlemont, Fremont, McClymonds, Oakland, Oakland Technical, and Skyline. Membership in the Oakland Athletic League may be accomplished by invitation of the Policy Committee or acceptance of an outside school’s application by the Policy Committee. The purpose of the league is to provide a system for conducting fair and equal interscholastic sports competition among the high schools.
About Title IX
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) enforces, among other statutes, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Title IX protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance. Title IX states that:
No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.
