Indoor masking at all OUSD schools and facilities will continue to be required through Sunday, April 24, 2022. Starting Monday, April 25, indoor masking will be strongly recommended in OUSD, consistent with guidance from the California Department of Public Health.
As you know, OUSD has kept the indoor mask requirement in place to be sure we didn’t see a major surge coming out of spring break. Fortunately, the numbers within OUSD and countywide have stayed relatively low following spring break. However, there is always the possibility that we would need to revert to requiring indoor masks if we receive new guidance from public health officials.
Additionally, we need to be clear that COVID is still very present in our community, even while transmission rates and hospitalizations are lower than earlier this year. We strongly urge all students and staff to continue to mask indoors. In some cases, masking may still be required, including, for example, following a positive case diagnosis. As we have done throughout the pandemic, we will continue to offer COVID testing and vaccines at our schools. You can find testing and vaccine information and locations here.
We strongly encourage everyone to get vaccinated and boosted as soon as eligible, and to submit your vaccination cards to OUSD. To submit your student’s vaccination card, please email it to vaccinestatus_student@ousd.org.

We are writing today with an update about our outdoor masking policy at OUSD schools and facilities. As you know, we have been requiring all students, staff, volunteers, and visitors to mask up inside and outside at all OUSD facilities this school year. We will be moving to optional outdoor masking for all students, staff, volunteers, and visitors starting on Monday, March 21.
We are continuing to work with our labor partners and other stakeholders to determine the future of our indoor masking requirement after April 15, 2022.
In the meantime, we are preparing for spring break and the last quarter of the school year. At-home test kits will be available for all students and staff by the last week of March for pickup at their school or office. Each kit contains two tests. Please use these during the break, on the Friday and Sunday before returning to school. We encourage families to sign up for another distribution of test kits from the federal government at covidtests.gov, particularly if you are planning to travel or gather in large groups over break.
As a reminder, if you have not yet submitted your student’s vaccination card, please email it to vaccinestatus_student@ousd.org. Thank you for all that you are doing to help keep our community safe and protected during the pandemic.
