Overview

Westlake Middle School opened its doors to students in the fall of 1928 as one of the first middle schools in Oakland. We have educated many illustrious Oaklanders such as the Honorable Ron Dellums, Baseball Hall of Famer Frank Robinson, the Pointer Sisters, esteemed educators Caroline and Gary Yee, and many more including our current scholars and recent graduates. Westlake offers an exceptional middle school experience for scholars. We have an award winning instrumental music program, visual arts program, as well as dance, choir, drama and computer science. Core academic areas also infuse Arts integration in their lessons. We also have the most rigorous promotion requirements in the district that aligns with our district's High School Readiness expectations. In order to promote from the 8th Grade scholars must have a 2.50 GPA, no D or F in English or Math, 96% attendance rate, and 0 suspensions. We invite you to join Westlake administrators, scholars, teachers, parents, school staff and the community to share in the responsibility and joy of ensuring our scholars are successful.
