Overview
At Markham Elementary, we aim to embrace, nurture, guide and challenge all children in their development towards becoming empowered, and productive citizens. Students at Markham have fun while learning skills that ensure they are competent, fully-informed, critical thinkers! As educators, we are dedicated to the teaching and development of the whole child. Our school program provides students with a fun and rigorous curriculum based on Common Core standards, hands on math and science, a balanced literacy curriculum, leveled classroom libraries, writing throughout all content areas, music, choir, gardening, and computer-based programs. We value parent involvement and organize Parent Cafes for our parents to come together and build community. Parents are also able to dialogue with the principal at our monthly Chew Chat meetings. As part of our mission to support the whole child, dental and vision care is provided for students in need and we have a counseling center, as well as a nurse and psychologist on site. At Markham, we have a safe, caring community where students thrive, excel and achieve and where everyone is welcome.
