Overview

Garfield is one of the most diverse schools in Oakland and we value diversity as our strength. Garfield Elementary is a place where "scholars will grow into caring and creative adults prepared to graduate from college and succeed in life." Our scholars are supported by caring teachers and staff as they engage in a rigorous academic program focused on reading, writing, math and science as well as social emotional development. Scholars begin the day by building classroom community with a daily morning circle.

In grades TK-5, scholars also participate in PE, art, gardening, dance, and music class. At Garfield, we also believe that teacher and family partnerships are key to student success. Over the course of the school year families and teachers will meet at least five times to discuss specific academic goals, celebrate progress, and identify need for greater supports.

Our team at Garfield is excited to welcome you and your family to our school. We hope we are able to be of service to you and your family, and to continue to provide a high-quality, joyful education for your scholar. Go WILDCATS!
