Overview

At Korematsu Discovery Academy (KDA), we foster students to become leaders, questioners, and critical thinkers by providing a nurturing environment where students will be both celebrated and challenged to reach their potential.

We empower each student to grow both academic and emotional intelligences and become agents of change in a modern society. We take a science- and brain-based approach to literacy at KDA. Students build their competencies in “The Big 5” (phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension) through a wide variety of texts, genres, and strategies.

Students engage in a project-based learning approach that impacts their communities. Past projects include the E Street Beautification Project, The Tree Planting Project with Growing Together, and A Day of Solidarity.

KDA Students in TK-5 receive at least 90 minutes of weekly science instruction with many classrooms offering daily science and engineering experiences.

We implement Restorative Justice practices throughout our school day, from class circles to conflict mediation, to support students in learning how to be compassionate, responsible members of our community.

We’d love to have you join our community - Together, we have the power to reach for the stars!
