Franky Navarro

Franky Navarro was born and raised in Oakland. Franky is a proud Class of 1997 Castlemont High School graduate. He has been connected to the Oakland Athletic League (OAL) for the past 25 years beginning as a student athlete at Castlemont and earning 1st Team All-City Selection in Baseball and Soccer.

In 2019, Franky was appointed as the Commissioner for the Oakland Section of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF)and Oakland Athletic League (O.A.L), overseeing 27 schools, including 9 OUSD high schools and 17 middle schools. As Commissioner, Franky has worked relentlessly to enhance the student-athlete experience across the district, focusing on ensuring that all students have access to athletics, free of charge. In his first seven years in the role, Franky has successfully established several community partnerships, directly enhancing resources available to Oakland’s student-athletes and fostering a more inclusive sports culture.

Through his leadership, Franky Navarro has made a lasting impact on the East Oakland community, blending his passion for education, athletics, and community service into a career dedicated to the growth and success of Oakland’s youth
