Our Food
School Meals
We offer free breakfast and lunch during the school day for every student in our pre-K, TK-12 and Young Adult programs. We also offer supper to all students in after-school programs at OUSD schools.
Please contact your school site for mealtime hours. You can find your school's information on the school site directory page.
California Universal Meals Program
In school year 2022–2023, California became the first state in the nation to implement a statewide Universal Meals Program for all school children. This means that all public school districts, including OUSD, are required to offer a free and nutritious breakfast and lunch to every student who asks for a meal, regardless of the student's eligibility status for the Free and Reduced Price Meals program.
The Universal Meals Program has multiple benefits for OUSD. Free meals expand food access to children who may be food insecure, improve the health and well-being of students, and improve students' ability to learn. To learn more about the benefits of School Meals for All, visit the California Budget & Policy Center's webpage. For further data and information on topics related to the Universal Meal Program, visit the UC Nutrition Policy Institute's webpage on free school meals.
Locally Sourced!
Nutrition Services is using our procurement dollars to purchase items farmed and produced in California! These efforts are in line with the Good Food Purchasing Policy, which the OUSD school board passed in 2017. The resolution outlines five "Good Food Purchasing" values: local economies, environmental sustainability, animal welfare, valued workforce, and nutritious food.
