Board of Education Office
The Governing Board, commonly called the Board of Education, is the elected policy-making body of the public education system within the City of Oakland, California. The Governing Board's primary responsibilities are to ensure that every student served by the District is well educated and demonstrates high academic achievement.
Labor Management and Employee Relations (LMER)
Oversees management/employee relation, including contract negotiations with bargaining units and CBA disputes.
Oakland School Police Department (OSPD)
Dispatches sworn OSPD police officers and civilian school safety officers (SSO).
Ombudsperson
Receives, investigates and responds to internal complaints alleging discrimination, harassment, and/or retaliation.
Programs for Exceptional Children (PEC)
Provides special education services to students in the District as well as non-District students within our region.
Risk Management
Provides identification and evaluation of the risks and potential loss exposures inherent in District programs and operations.
Talent Division (HR)
Specializes in the recruitment, hiring, and retention of employees in the District. Our office often works with the Talent staff around employment-related matters, including discipline, leave status, disability accommodations, and credential issues.
Workers' Compensation
Handles claims for injuries that occur on District grounds in the course of employment with the District.
