Tentative Agreement reached on May 14, 2023 provides the raise our teachers deserve!

In addition to a historic raise for our teachers, through this TA between OUSD and OEA, we have deepened our investments in the visual and performing arts, counselors, and have provided our elementary teachers with cherished additional time for planning and collaboration. Elementary school students will also benefit from more intervention and enrichment time with teachers.

The Oakland Education Association (OEA) has called off its strike and school will resume as normal on Tuesday, May 16! All OUSD schools will be open on Monday, and students are welcome on campus. However, it is not clear how many staff will be present at any given site. Monday will be a “transition day” for OEA members to prepare for regular school to resume on Tuesday. They may be at school on Monday but are not required to be. Some teachers may choose to be back in class with their students; others may choose not to come to campus. We will release more details about the agreements between OUSD and OEA later in the day on Monday.

We are pleased to announce that OUSD and the Oakland Education Association (OEA) have reached four agreements on Common Good issues: (1) Housing and Transportation, (2) Community Schools Grant, (3) Black Thriving Community Schools, and (4) School Closures. These agreements are the culmination of discussions that recently occurred outside of the teachers’ contract bargaining process. For more information, you can view each agreement below:
