Dear Horace Mann Community,
On behalf of the staff of Horace Mann Elementary, I am happy to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year! My name is Tammie Adams and I am entering my fifth year as principal of Horace Mann. My first year was spent building relationships with students, teachers, families and the community at large. For the past three years, we have worked to improve academic outcomes for all students. Staff and families have all come together to support students and families during this challenging time of navigating through the Pandemic. I have worked in OUSD for the past 27 years as a Kindergarten and First Grade Teacher, Elementary Literacy Specialist and a School Improvement Coach.
It is important to me that we as a community participate in our children’s growth and development. We all know that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both home and school. I know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and I want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.
I would like to encourage each parent/guardian to stay active in your child’s education. I certainly realize you lead busy lives and it is difficult to volunteer at school. Please know that we will, however, have several opportunities throughout the year for you to volunteer in other events as listed within this handbook, while also following all COVID guidelines. Also, taking just a few minutes to read to/with your child, talk with your child about school or simply see that your child is organized for the next school day can have great benefits.
