Check out the resources below for more information about what is taught in each grade level of the Healthy Oakland Kids & Teens Puberty and Sexual Health lessons, as well as topics to discuss with your child or teen at different ages, books and websites to help with your conversations and how to be an “askable” parent or caregiver. These resources are available in English, Spanish, Arabic and Chinese
Parent/Caregiver Notification & Rights
Parents and guardians are notified that their child will be receiving comprehensive puberty or sexual health education at least two weeks prior to the start of instruction. Notification is also included in the Student/Family Handbook.
Parents and guardians have the right to opt their child out of puberty or sexual health instruction by providing notice in writing to their child's science teacher or front office staff.
Parents and guardians can view all puberty and sexual health education materials by arranging an appointment to view the curriculum in person or on Zoom. To do so, please contact your child's teacher, or the district's Teacher on Special Assignment for Sexual Health Education: katie.kelly-hankin@ousd.org
