NEW: Food Aid

Parents can apply for a Pandemic-EBT card, called P-EBT, if their children are eligible for free or reduced price school meals. Apply and get up to $365 per child to spend on groceries.

People already enrolled in CalFresh should automatically get their P-EBT card in the mail between May 11-May 22 without having to apply.

Step 2: Share some basic information:

1. students’ names
2. Student’s birthdate,
3. Name of a parent or guardian
4. The address registered at the school with.

Step 3: Eligibility

The Department of Social Services will check eligibility and check to make sure your family can get P-EBT.

Step 4: Get a P-EBT card in the mail.

If approved, the family will get a P-EBT card with money on it for groceries within 12 days. The card will be loaded with grocery money and come with instructions on how to use it.

First day to apply: May 22, 2020

Last day to apply: June 30, 2020

Grab & Go Food

In OUSD Schools: For all students in OUSD and any Oakland children under 18.

During the closure, our Nutrition Services Department will open twelve schools throughout the city where “Grab and Go” breakfast and lunch meals will be available for our students. The sites listed below will be open at the following times and children will be able to pick up multiple days worth of food to take home.

• Monday: 8:00-12:00 (3 breakfasts/3 lunches per student)
• Thursday: 8:00-12:00 (2 breakfasts/2 lunches per student)
• Food is available to all OUSD students, and any Oakland child 18 and under.
• Please bring a grocery bag or cooler to bring food home for the week.
• Northwest/West Oakland: Sankofa Elementary, West Oakland Middle School and Hoover Elementary
• Central Oakland: Oakland High School and Garfield Elementary
• East Oakland: Bret Harte Middle School, Life Academy/United for Success, Coliseum College Preparatory Academy, Madison Park Upper, Fremont High School, Castlemont High School and Elmhurst United Middle School

Student does not need to be present but family will need to provide student’s name, grade level, and school.

CalFresh Food Stamp Program -

• The Central Family Resource Center provides OUSD families health care insurance and CalFresh enrollment assistance, workshops for families, and capacity building resources for school sites. (510) 273-1516

OR: It is now easier to apply and receive benefits via GetCalFresh.org.

• You do not have to interview in order to qualify (up until May), nor report your income (up until June).
• The state is issuing additional emergency allotments (EA) on cards already active for March/April. If you meet CalFresh eligibility, the maximum benefit will be automatically loaded onto your EBT account. You will not have your benefit amount reduced due to income.
• New applicants can fill out the online application that takes about 10 minutes. If someone needs assistance, the Berkeley Free Clinic has volunteers available to help Alameda County residents with the application process.
