Overview

Over the years, the Facilities Planning and Management Department has successfully accomplished numerous projects for the communities of Oakland Unified School District. These projects, some of which were funded by bond measures voted on by Oakland residents, encompass a wide range of improvements, from facility upgrades to playground renovations and energy efficiency enhancements. Bret Harte Field

Location: Bret Harte Middle School   
Funding Source: Measure J    
Start Date: December 2017    
Completion Date: July 2018
Scope: Replacement of the existing asphalt play yard with a 2” synthetic turf field.

California Solar Initiative Project

Location: Bret Harte MS, Castlemont HS, Edna Brewer MS, Havenscourt MS, Kings Estate MS, Lowell MS, Madison MS, McClymonds HS, Monterra MS, Oakland HS, Oakland International HS, Oakland Technical HS, Roosevelt MS, Sankofa at Washington ES, Skyline HS, Westlake MS

Start Date: September 2012    
Completion Date: December 2014
Scope: Design, engineering, and installation of photovoltaic solar panel systems, which convert of thermal energy into electricity, at multiple sites across the district as a part of Facilities' energy efficiency solar initiative.

Claremont Field

Location: Claremont Middle School   
Funding Source: Measure J    
Start Date: May 2019    
Completion Date: August 2019
Scope: Demolition of old cafeteria building, underground relocation of electrical panel that feeds the gym, installation of AC paving, and the installation of a new synthetic turf on existing asphalt pavement. Site furnishings, a painted asphalt running surface, and the relocation and adjustment of restroom fixtures, accessories, and signage.

Edna Brewer Track and Field

Location: Edna Brewer Middle School   
Funding Source: Measure J    
Start Date: June 2016   
Completion Date: August 2016    
Scope: Replacement of the existing asphalt in the lower play yard with a new synthetic turf field and striping to support the physical education classes.

Frick ISS

Location: Frick United Academy of Language   
Funding Source: Measure J    
Start Date: February 2018     
Completion Date: March 2020
Scope: Phase I: Painting of interior and exterior of selected buildings on campus, installation of new cabinets and furniture in specific classrooms and demolition of existing portables on campus. Phase II: Installation of a new synthetic turf field and various site improvement work including painting, plumbing, carpentry and lighting.

Fruitvale Elementary Bleachers and Restroom

Location: Fruitvale Elementary School  
Funding Source: Measure J    
Start Date: March 2015
Completion Date: November 2015
Scope: Restoration of the bleachers, construction of new press box, and remodeling of the student restrooms at the field.

Greenleaf at Whittier Expansion

Location: Greenleaf School   
Funding Source: Measure J    
Start Date: June 2015    
Completion Date: August 2017
Scope: Phase I: Modular classroom buildings, interim housing portables, play structure and site improvements. Phase II: New multi-purpose, new classroom building, modernization of existing building and site work.

McClymonds Intensive Site Support

Location: McClymonds High School   
Funding Source: Measure J    
Start Date: May 2016   
Completion Date: October 2019
Scope: Phase I: New site surveillance cameras and preparations of utilities for exterior marquee. Phase II: Major modernization of the Library Innovation Technology Center includes a flexible learning space for the Learning Commons, new Africana Center, new Mack World Café & Office complete with new lighting, carpeting, furniture, and ceiling fans in classrooms to improve ventilation; new door hardware for classrooms to allow locking on classroom side; mandated ADA accessibility Improvements to exterior entry ramp and 2nd floor restrooms.

Oakland Tech Field

Location: Oakland Technical High School
Funding Source: Measure J    
Start Date: June 2017    
Completion Date: October 2017
Scope: Installation of a new turf field, resurfacing, and striping of the existing track.

Prop 39

Location: Allendale ES, Bella Vista ES, Claremont MS, Garfield ES, Kaiser ES, Jefferson ES, Maxwell Park ES, Oakland Tech HS, Maxwell Park MS, Sequoia ES, Skyline HS, Washington ES, West Oakland MS   
Funding Source: Measure J    
Start Date: May 2018    
Completion Date: December 2019
Scope: Energy efficiency improvement measures that aim to reduce energy use. Scope includes the replacement of existing maps with LED equivalent,  modular AC units ( bard units) with efficient units, existing motors in classrooms with ECM motors, removal of darkened film on clerestory windows, and the replacement of classroom thermostats with smart thermostats.

Skyline Turf and Field Replacement

Location: Skyline High School   
Funding Source: Measure J    
Start Date: May 2015    
Completion Date: December 2015
Scope: Replacement of the existing synthetic turf stadium field and resurfacing of the existing all-weather running track areas at Skyline High. as well as the repaving of the service road around the perimeter of the school.
