Garfield Elementary School
Project Description
The project involves building a completely new campus. The new 29-classroom building will serve grades PK–5, establishing a full early childhood program and allowing families to enroll children earlier and stay at Garfield longer. The project will create modernized spaces, including a library, multipurpose room, family resource center, and administration office, along with upgraded safety, accessibility, roofing, and mechanical and plumbing systems. Outdoor campus areas will feature a new playground and staff parking lot. Through partnerships and collaboration, the use of the field next to the school will be utilized, expanding the school's presence in the neighborhood and enhancing the safety and security of the community.

Board Approves Expanded Vision for Garfield Elementary Measure Y Bond Project
On March 11, 2026, the OUSD Board of Education approved a major update to the Garfield Elementary School Measure Y Bond project: instead of modernizing the existing building, the District will move forward with constructing a larger, brand-new school building, which also includes new play areas, landscaping, a play field, and the demolition of the existing school building.
