Community Collaboration

Overview

OUSD has recognized that there must be opportunities for community collaboration to create effective and impactful change. The Sustainability Team actively collaborates with the District’s communities and the City of Oakland to ensure that sustainability initiatives are equitable and address community concerns and priorities. Currently, community feedback opportunities include recurring community meetings (awareness workshops, town halls, Sustainability Advisory Council meetings), surveys, and more!

Anticipated Sustainability Planning & Engagement Process

The Community Engagement Roadmap above outlines the Sustainability Team’s efforts in developing the Sustainability Policy and Implementation Plan. This graphic was updated in November 2024 to reflect changes to our engagement process as we moved through the planning process. Sustainability Advisory Council  Meetings

The Sustainability Advisory Council (SAC) meetings are paused while the District Staff Task Force and the Sustainability Team finalize the Policy for Board approval. Upon approval of the Policy, SAC meetings will resume to begin crafting the Plan. The Sustainability Team anticipates receiving Policy approval in quarter 3 of 2024 and completing the development of the Plan early in quarter 4 of 2024.

City of Oakland Partnership 

OUSD’s Sustainability Team actively collaborates with the City of Oakland to create awareness and alignment around sustainability efforts and initiatives. Through OUSD’s Sustainability Policy and Plan and the City’s Equitable Climate Action Plan, we are improving our community sustainability efforts. This partnership with the City will support and promote the outcomes of each entity’s sustainability process and overall the sustainability of the greater Oakland community.
