Oakland Unified School District is excited to welcome all children who turn three by December 2, into our high-quality Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program. 

The ECE program strives to build a solid foundation of success for all children and their families. We believe early childhood education is a catalyst to high student achievement.

We are committed to providing each child in our program access to a high-quality educational experience, a commitment reflected in the fact that all 28 ECE sites received a 4-star quality rating in the 2016-17 school year. 

Our promise to provide kindergarten readiness will be accomplished through instruction, assessment and curriculum that is developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate. The curriculum includes instruction in early literacy, math, science, art, physical development, and social/emotional development and is rooted in the California Preschool Learning Foundations.

OUSD is the contractor for the State and operates the program through its Early Childhood Education (ECE) Department. ECE is responsible for ensuring that all local, State and Federal requirements are met. ECE operates under Title 5 and Title 22 regulations and adheres to California Education Code.
