Current Projects
Multiple OUSD projects are underway through funding from Measure J and Measure Y Bonds.
Measure J, passed by Oakland Voters in November 2012, and Measure Y, passed in November 2020, are School Facilities Improvement Bonds providing $475 million and $735 million in funding respectively. Both bonds were placed on the ballot by the Board to fund necessary school and facility improvements across the District. Measure J has and continues to be used for roofing and HVAC system repairs, science labs, classrooms, computers, and technology; removing asbestos and lead paint; making seismic upgrades; and upgrading kitchen facilities.
Similarly, Measure Y expenditures include addressing classrooms, bathrooms, plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC systems, and roofs. The bond money will also be spent on the renovation of existing school buildings and construction of new facilities. In March 2021, the Measure Y spending plan was ratified by the Board, promoting OUSD Facilities to start planning out construction projects on the spending plan. Planning, including the prioritization of projects, has begun.
