No work we do is more important than making sure that our youngest students learn how to read and write. That’s why OUSD is lifting up early literacy as a major focus of our work over the next three years. Young children need a strong foundation in reading, writing, listening and speaking to start them on a successful path through school. Developing our students into fluent and skilled readers will build their confidence, spark curiosity and creativity, and lead to a brighter future. I am so excited to partner in this important work with our families, teachers, leaders, and community members.- Superintendent Kyla Johnson-TrammellFall, 2020
