About the West Oakland Middle School Library
Welcome to the WOMS Library! Our mission is to create a safe and welcoming space that encourages literacy and creativity. We strive to get students excited about books and implement programming that supports literacy, STEM, and makers ideals. Additionally, we support teachers and the community with access to resources.
Robyn Brown, Library Technician, is in her second year of the MLIS program at SJSU and received her BA in history from UCSB. She grew up in Berkeley and attended Berkeley public schools, and is excited to work with the students of West Oakland. In her free time she enjoys reading, hiking, and exploring the Bay Area.
The library is open 2 - 3 days a week (Ms. Brown splits her time between WOMS and Bret Harte Middle School). It is open on an alternating schedule Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday one week and Thursday, Friday the next week. Students can check the calendar on the Library door for the schedule. Students can drop in:
How to schedule a visit or meeting in the Library:
Students can check out books for two weeks at a time, and renew them for another two weeks unless there is a hold request from another student.
There is no food or drink in the library.
There are no late fees charged. For lost books, we ask that the student thoroughly look for the book and if they cannot find it they may pay to replace it or work in the library for 30 - 60 minutes.
OUSD provides resources to help students research and find books in the catalog. Click here to check them out.
The Oakland Public Library also has wonderful resources for the whole family (website).
