The Nutrition Services Team does its work within a very tight budget. The funding comes from three sources, Federal reimbursement, State reimbursement, and local sales (student sales, adult sales, catering, etc.). Nutrition Services must be self supporting. Due to this, we do not receive a contribution from the General Fund.
Nutrition Services on average maintains a $15 million budget. With those funds, Nutrition Services must pay for:
California receives the same meal reimbursement rates as other states with lower costs of living. So while it costs more to provide a meal in California and the Bay Area, Oakland receives the same per meal reimbursement as Tulsa, Oklahoma.
