Our students are creative thinkers, effective communicators and compassionate citizens. They attain academic excellence and powerful thinking skills. Our students communicate effectively through oral and written English and Spanish, among other languages, and a variety of arts and technological media. Our students are happy, compassionate citizens who possess strong social and emotional skills and confidence in their own capacity to learn and achieve.
New Highland Academy is a model Arts Learning Anchor School, an Alameda County Office of Education arts initiative. Our teachers have a wide variety of experience in the arts and participate in ongoing professional development geared towards integrating the arts throughout all curricular content areas. Many teachers are bilingual in English and Spanish (and more)! We have a dedicated Visual Arts classroom and a Visual Arts Specialist teacher where students engage in weekly arts instruction, which ranges from painting, drawing, and printmaking to ceramics and digital media. In addition, we partner with Luna Dance Institute to provide dance instruction and to integrate dance into other learning areas. We have a garden too!
