About Restorative Justice at Ralph J. Bunche Academy
All students at Ralph J. Bunche Academy are welcomed and encouraged to be a part of the Restorative Justice Team. Students on the team are trained in creating and facilitating Tier 1,2, and 3 circles. Students also engage in powerful thought provoking and self-reflective dialogue under the Restorative Justice ideology of “One Mic”. One Mic, means only the person with the talking piece can speak, this allows more introverted students to find their own unique powerful voice. Throughout the year students on the Restorative Justice team will facilitate circles in their classrooms. Teachers and staff are also trained in Restorative Justice to ensure restorative practices are present in every class. As a part of training, teachers are given a guidebook they can use throughout the school year to help them create their own circles. Teachers can use this guide to create circles that serve a variety of different topics and agendas. There are community building circles, conflict resolution circles, as well as circles that can be built into the academic curriculum of any class.
