Raquel Rodríguez Jones has worked in Oakland Unified School District since 1997, first as a bilingual teacher at Hawthorne Elementary then as a founding teacher of International Community School, where she taught bilingual and sheltered English third, fourth and fifth grades. She served as a Science Lead Teacher and on the Instructional Leadership Team while at ICS. Raquel’s son attended ICS from 3rd through 5th grades. Raquel worked for four years as a STEM Coordinator with OUSD’s Central Office, supporting both science and math in elementary schools before returning to ICS to be principal.

Raquel was born in Tulare, California, to parents working with the United Farm Workers Union and has lived in many parts of the United States. 

Raquel is a graduate of Oakland’s Merritt Community College where she got her Associates in Arts and was Student Body President. She transferred to Cal Berkeley and received her Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies. Raquel received her Master’s in Educational Leadership from REACH Institute for School Leadership and completed her Administrative Credential from Cal’s Principal Leadership Institute. 

Raquel Rodríguez Jones ha trabajado en el Distrito Escolar Unificado de Oakland desde 1997, primero como maestra bilingüe en Hawthorne Elementary y luego como maestra fundadora de International Community School, donde enseñó bilingüe y inglés protegido en tercer, cuarto y quinto grado. Se desempeñó como Maestra Líder de Ciencias y en el Equipo de Liderazgo Educativo mientras estuvo en ICS. El hijo de Raquel asistió a ICS de 3° a 5° grado. Raquel trabajó durante cuatro años como coordinadora de STEM en la oficina central de OUSD, apoyando tanto las ciencias como las matemáticas en las escuelas primarias antes de regresar a ICS para ser directora.

Raquel nació en Tulare, California, de padres que trabajaban con el Sindicato Unido de Trabajadores Agrícolas y ha vivido en muchas partes de los Estados Unidos.

Raquel se graduó de Merritt Community College de Oakland, donde obtuvo sus Asociados en Artes y fue Presidenta del Cuerpo Estudiantil. Se transfirió a Cal Berkeley y recibió su Licenciatura en Artes en Estudios Interdisciplinarios. Raquel recibió su Maestría en Liderazgo Educativo del Instituto REACH para el Liderazgo Escolar y realizo su Credencial Administrativa del Instituto de Liderazgo Principal de Cal.
