What is Trasitional Kindergarten (TK)?
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is a full day class OUSD offers for students who turn 5 between September 2 and February 8th (per OUSD for 2022-23 school year).
TK is the first of a two-year kindergarten experience designed to meet the specific needs of four and five-year-old children. TK teachers are credentialed with specialized training in teaching young children. Aligned with the California Common Core Standards for kindergarten, instruction focuses on all areas of child development, including social emotional, literacy and math foundations as well as fine and gross motor skills. TK classrooms are nurturing environments where children learn through individual and small group instruction that is hands-on and play-based.
Eligible Transitional Kindergarten students will be placed in a TK program for the upcoming school year and continue to kindergarten the following year.
