Welcome to the 2023-24 School Year
A Message from McClymonds Principal, Mr. Jeffrey Taylor
-
Greetings McClymonds Faculty, Staff, Students, Families and Community,
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of introduction. My name is Jeffrey Taylor and I am the Principal of McClymonds High School. McClymonds has a rich history and is one of the strongest alumni in Oakland. My earliest experience in Oakland Unified School District began in West Oakland at Clawson Elementary School when I was in Pre-School.
I come to you with twenty-one years of experience in education. I began my career in education, as a teacher at Lowell Middle School. I truly enjoyed working there and was sad to see it closed. After the closing of Lowell, I transitioned to Frick Middle School, where I worked as a teacher, Teacher on Special Assignment, Assistant Principal and finally, the Principal. After Frick went through its transformation, I transitioned to the OAL office where I served as the Middle School Sports Coordinator. I then spent one year at RISE Elementary School and one year at San Lorenzo High as the Assistant Principal.
Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked for Oakland Parks and Recreation for twenty-one years and the YMCA of the East Bay, Eastlake Branch for six years. I earned an Associate of Arts degree in Humanities from Vista Community College; a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities from New College of California, and a Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership and my Administrative Credential from National University.
My goal is to ensure that all children are healthy, happy and safe, so they may learn as much as they can. This has been my philosophy since I began my teaching career. One of the most important aspects of my work here at Mack will be building strong relationships with students, teachers and families. You’ll find me in the hallways, classrooms and at special activities. My passion has been and always will be educating students. With that in mind, you can expect that I will work diligently with teachers to make sure our students are exposed to curriculum and instruction that is both engaging and challenging. I am so thankful to have the opportunity to bring all that I have experienced and learned with me to this wonderful community.
Sincerely,
Mr. Jeffrey Taylor
