    Bret Harte Middle School has begun hiring for the 2016-2017 school year. We are looking for dynamic educators with experience effecting change. The work of the urban educator is demanding and difficult, but the potential to bring about change at Bret Harte is well worth it. Teachers at Bret Harte can expect to utilize wide-ranging blended learning platforms with 1:1 student to Chromebook ratio, extensive site-based instructional coaching, and a community of social justice-oriented, deeply committed professionals.

    Bret Harte's diverse community embraces mutual respect, hard work and resilience to nurture the whole child in pursuit of academic excellence during the transition to young adulthood.  

    Bret Harte prepares students for high school and beyond. Established in 1930, the school currently serves approximately 600 students. More than 23,000 students have graduated from Bret Harte since it opened. Our most famous alumnus is actor Tom Hanks (Class of 1971). We are one of the most diverse schools in all of Oakland, and proud of our commitment to serve all of our city's youth.

    • Multiple-subject credentialed teachers in humanities core classrooms (English and history)
    • Computer science educator
    • Newcomer teachers
