  Principal Peter Van Tassel, known as "Mr. V.T.", was born and raised in 
  Oakland and attended Oakland public schools. He attended Pomona 
  College in Southern California and started his teaching career at Humphreys 
  Avenue Elementary in East Los Angeles. 

  In 2003, he moved back to Oakland, working at Chavez Middle School 
  in Hayward. From 2006 to spring 2013, he served as Vice-Principal at 
  Westlake Middle school in Oakland. He joined the Cleveland community 
  in the summer of 2013.


In his free time, Mr. VT enjoys traveling, DJing, Oakland nationalism, 
extreme cooking, and riding bicycles with his wife throughout the 
beautiful city of Oakland. His travels have taken him to Cambodia, 
Cuba, El Salvador, Jamaica, Laos, Mexico, Thailand, Viet Nam, and 
Emeryville, but Oakland will always be home.
