PRIDE's literacy program takes an individualized approach to teaching reading and writing, as students read and write at a level appropriate to their skills while receiving instruction to help them advance. We also engage students in analysis and discussion of complex texts in order to prepare them for the demands of college, career and citizenship. Our instructional approaches include:
- Reading Workshop
- Writing Workshop
- Guided Reading
- Systematic Instruction in Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words (SIPPS) (K-2 English)
- Estrellita phonics instruction (K-2 Spanish)
EOP uses the curriculum Eureka Math (also known as EngageNY). We focus on teaching students to reason mathematically and apply their knowledge to real-world problems.
East Oakland PRIDE scholars engage in FOSS Science Investigations. The FOSS curriculum provides students with hands-on science experiences that support students to develop a deep understanding of complex science content.
