Welcome to Montera Middle School !
We are located on 19 wooded acres in the Montclair area of Oakland. Our diverse student population has come from nearly 60 schools in and outside of Oakland, including private, public and charter institutions. Montera’s school faculty is diverse as well, of many backgrounds, ages and experiences.
In 2011, Montera became a California Distinguished School, currently the only publicCalifornia distinguished school logo(non-charter) middle school in Oakland to receive that distinction. The woodshop is another source of school pride, having celebrated over 50 years of teaching children the arts of woodcraft. It is the only remaining woodshop in an Oakland middle school.
The school had a $9.3 million renovation in 2010 -11, offering students an attractive and up-to-date physical environment. Sixth graders have their own area of the campus, allowing them to transition from elementary school to the middle school model.
Montera prides itself on educating the whole child both academically and socially. We are committed to maintain high academic standards while working with students at all academic levels. The Montera community is dedicated to ensuring that all students have equal access to a broad-based curriculum in an environment that fosters dignity and respect for everyone.
Our administration, faculty and staff have helped to create a school that many parents choose for their children. The support of parents is critical to any school and they contribute to our electives program, interventions and extra curricular activities, making the school an environment where our kids can continue to grow.
Working as a community, our kids are Bound for Success!
Mission Statement: Montera Middle School aims to provide all students with a supportive environment and rigorous curriculum through which they develop into inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring lifelong learners utilizing their creative talents to help build a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
