• Debate
      
    Debate provides students an opportunity to cultivate their voices. They art of debate emphasizes researching and preparing position statements on both sides of a specified topic. The students study the facts and arguments supporting the positions for and against the topic and prepare themselves to present either one, depending on which side of the topic their team is assigned during a competition. Preparation begins in the fall and culminates in competition in January and February.
     
    The Students
    Students actively experience the excitement of working in teams, exchange ideas, set goals, and examine issues. 
     
     
    The Topic
    Each year, the Bay Area Urban Debate League (BAUDL) develops a new set of Mock Trial materials based on an important issue facing America's youth. The topic for 2020-2021 is
    Resolved: The United States Federal Government should enact substantial criminal justice reform in the Unites STates in one or more of the following: forensic science, policing, sentencing.
