• In 2005, the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) embarked on a set of systemic reforms aimed at preparing every student for success in college and the workplace. The reform agenda represented a unique and unprecedented collaboration between the district and the Oakland community.

    The lessons learned from Oakland’s systemic reform efforts have the potential to serve Oakland’s next generation of local leaders, as well as public educators, philanthropists, and advocates around the country who are working to accelerate student performance at scale.
