September is Pride Month

OUSD is proud to celebrate our LGBTQ students, staff, families, and community. We are committed to building an inclusive and supportive community across the district, and an important part of that movement is our LGBTQ students, staff and families. 

Our Health and Wellness Unit advocates for and supports the creation of Gender and Sexuality Alliance Clubs in nearly every middle and high school, and Rainbow Clubs in elementary schools where students form alliances and learn about diverse families, the importance of respecting others and, most importantly, the value of being one’s authentic self. Also supportive of this effort are family-inclusive and diverse books in our school libraries, and professional development training offered to all schools and departments. 

Here in Oakland Unified, we will always stand with all of our students, staff, and families no matter their sexuality, gender identity, or any other characteristic that makes all of us unique.
