We made it! The 2024-25 school year comes to a close today and I want to congratulate our students, families, staff and community on another successful year of teaching, learning and thriving.

Cheers to all of our students, and especially those promoting to a new school or graduating from high school. It's such a pleasure to witness the absolute joy and confidence on the faces of our young people as they stride across the stage to the cheers of their family and friends.

This final day of school is bittersweet for me personally as it's my last one serving as your superintendent. Below, you can watch a video of me sharing my thoughts about the District as I approach the end of my tenure, from a news conference that I held this morning.

I will have more to share as I end my time as superintendent next month, but for now I leave you with this:

  • To our students, I say congratulations and keep pushing forward. Your commitment to your studies, to your hobbies, to your sports, and to your friends and family is so important. Keep working hard. Keep having fun. Keep going. The future is yours.
  • To our staff, I simply say thank you. Your dedication to teaching, supporting, and loving our young people is admirable, inspiring, and vital. There is no OUSD without you.
  • To our community, I say don’t stop. Don't stop loving, supporting, and investing in our students. And may all of us never stop learning and never stop growing ourselves.

Our summer learning programs begin on June 9 in support of more than 6,000 students, and the first day of the 2025-26 school year is Monday, August 11. I wish you all a restful and joyful summer break and continued success on your educational journeys.

In community,
