Valarie Bachelor

Director Valarie Bachelor is a native of Bolivia, whose family immigrated to the United States in 1992. She grew up on the East Coast. She works as a union organizer for the California Federation of Teachers, and has been in the labor movement for more than 15 years. Bachelor is proud to say that her husband is a teacher at Fremont High School. “First and foremost, we have to rescind the school closures that the Board voted on last year hastily, without community input and without a financial analysis. We also really need to tackle the violence that’s been happening on our campuses. And to me that means both partnering with the city council to figure out how to tackle violence that’s happening overall in our city, but at the same time we need to be able to leverage our own district resources to make sure that all of our schools have nurses, counselors, restorative justice coaches, and culture keepers. And for the schools that have been hit the hardest, for them to get extra resources, extra love.”
