Opt Out Forms

There are several optional forms that parents/guardians can fill out to "opt out" of sharing specific information about their child, including media opt out, student image and school work opt out, and directory information opt out. You can manage authorizations and opt outs using the Aeries Parent Portal.

Instructions to opt-out

  1. Log into your parent portal account.
  2. Select 'student info menu'.
  3. Select 'data confirmation'.
  4. On the left click 'authorizations'.
  5. On this page you can adjust your authorizations.
  6. Be sure to click save at the bottom of the page when you are finished.

If you DO NOT want your child to be photographed or filmed by the media or other organizations for use in print, television, film, or internet publications.

Student Image / Schoolwork Opt Out

Oakland Unified School District often includes images of students engaged in school activities and events as part of outreach and information about our programs for parents, family, and the wider community. Community partners and qualified individuals or groups such as parent-teacher organizations value these images as compelling ways to share and urge support for the work of our teachers and students and they are also needed for use in certain school publications such as yearbooks, playbills, recognition lists/honor rolls, graduation programs or sports activities.

During the school year, your student may be photographed or filmed by District staff while participating in school programs and activities. We would like to have the opportunity to use these images on the District or community partner websites and/or in related publications. Fill out this form if you DO NOT consent to your student's image being used in this manner. We will make every effort to honor your request, however, please be aware that there may be circumstances where your child may be photographed or filmed beyond our control.

Directory Information

Directory information includes Student Name, Parent/Guardian Name, Student Address, Parent/Guardian Address, Student Telephone Number, Parent/Guardian Telephone Number, Student Email Address, Parent/Guardian Email Address, Student Date of Birth, Student’s Major Field of Study, Student’s participation record in officially recognized activities and sports, Weight and height of athletic team members, Student dates of attendance, Student degrees and awards received, Student most recent previous school attended, Student identification number, user identification, or other personal identifier, provided that the identifier cannot be used to gain access to education records

Directory information does not include a student's social security number, student's citizenship status, immigration status, place of birth, or any other information indicating national origin, and the District will never release such information without parental/guardian consent or a court order. In addition, no directory information of a student identified as a homeless child or youth as defined in 42 USC 11434a shall be released without parental/guardian consent.

If you do not wish for the District to release this directory information, please submit your opt-out request via the parent portal.
