    Sankofa is an Akan word that means "return and fetch it." The essense of Sankofa is to embody and understand the following: "We must go back and reclaim our past so we can move forward; so we understand why and how we came to be who we are today."



    OUR HISTORY
    Sankofa Academy opened during the 2004-05 school year with a commitment to empowerment and academic excellence for all students. 
    Sankofa serves students in grades Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten, and grades K-5. All of our programs are full day.

    Our primary vision and mission is to provide our students with the tools that they need to be critical thinkers and lifelong leaders. We emphasize student achievement. All of our students are encouraged to master numeracy, literacy, science, and social studies. We use current data to influence our instruction.     This schedule follows the minimum requirements set forth by OUSD for Distance Learning. Students may do more independent work as they choose. 

    Parents may take pictures of student work and send to teacher by text or by email Aleta.plummer@ousd.org.

    Students may complete work at anytime during the day that is convenient for them and their family. 

    Miss Plummer will monitor daily progress and is available during Zoom Class meetings and by text to answer any questions that may arise.
