    A Thriving Legacy

The Oakland Tech athletics program has been the launchpad for a number of history-making athletes, including Rickey Henderson, John Brodie and Marshawn Lynch.

Oakland Tech is a member of the Oakland Athletic League (OAL) and offers the following sports: badminton, baseball, basketball, cheer, cross country, football, girls lacrosse, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and wrestling. Students can participate in club ice hockey, boys lacrosse, mountain biking, rowing, and ultimate frisbee teams.

Our girls’ basketball team won the state championship in 2019, 2022, and 2023. Students have received several Student Athlete Awards for boys and girls the last five years. In recent years, Oakland Tech teams have won State Divisional, Regional and Oakland Athletic League (OAL) championships.

Oakland Tech's Athletic Director is Dr. Alexis Gray-Lawson, who helped lead Tech to its second state basketball title in 2005. At UC Berkeley, Gray-Lawson holds the Golden Bears’ all-time record for three-pointers made, with a total of 148. She signed with the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA in 2011. In the WNBA offseason, she also played professionally in Turkey and Israel. She received her doctorate in educational leadership and curriculum. Also on the team are Associate Athletic Director Karega Hart and Assistant Principal for Sports, Errico Bachicha.

    Sports & Seasons

We take great pride in the depth and breadth of our athletics program. Prior to the start of each season, we host a Sports Information Night for student-athletes and their families to learn about individual sports, meet the coaches, get the lowdown about expectations, practices, schedules and requirements, and much more.

Information about tryouts, games, and more are posted to ParentSquare and StudentSquare and on www.OaklandTechBulldogs.com.

    Eligibility

At Oakland Tech, we expect all our student-athletes to be outstanding citizens and role models. To be eligible for participation, students must maintain minimum progress toward graduation and must maintain a C average (2.0) in academic work.

Poor attendance, physical violence or fighting of any kind, possession of drugs or alcohol, or more than two suspensions from school will result in a student becoming ineligible for any extracurricular activity. Eligibility is determined from the preceding marking period’s report card and will be monitored by the coach of the sport. To be eligible, students must not be credit deficient by more than ten credits. All eligibility issues will be reviewed by the administration.
