• Prospective Families

Thank you for your interest in learning about the Oakland Tech community and in exploring all of the reasons and ways we’re Bulldog proud.

The strength of Oakland Technical High School (Oakland Tech) continues to be its academic reputation and emphasis on maintaining small learning communities, while enjoying the spirit and school climate of a large, comprehensive high school. The environment on campus is urban in culture with diverse metropolitan attitudes.

The proximity of the University of California, Berkeley, California State University, East Bay, the myriad of private colleges and universities, and the Bay Area’s business community has created a socially rich community with high academic expectations and a strong belief in quality public education. The student body reflects the Bay Area’s vast range of racial, ethnic, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds.

The best way for prospective students to learn about Oakland Technical High School is to be a Bulldog for the day! Current 8th graders are invited on campus for a first-hand look into a typical day at our high school. They will attend classes with an Oakland Tech Student Shadow Host, eat lunch with new friends, and get the chance to tour the campus, meet teachers, and ask any questions.

Shadow days are generally held once per week during January and February. Check back on this page, or contact Principal Martel Price, martel.price@ousd.org, to stay informed.

Alternatively, you can fill out the course registration form on your own and do not have to attend in person on 5/8/23.

Notes for filling out the registration form on your own:

    • If your students is already an OUSD student, their ID number is their Chromebook password – without the double zeros
    • If you want you or your student want to take Geometry in 9th grade:
      • Your student will need to have passed a certified algebra course and provide a transcript to the counselor (Shaheed.juman@ousd.org) as soon as they get them (summer is OK).
      • Select “Geometry” as your preferred math choice on the reg form
    • A First-year World language is highly recommended for an elective.

Summer bridge is an amazing opportunity for students to really get a head start and glimpse of what being in the 9th grade is all about. This program will give students the tools and the knowledge to help navigate their first year in High School and meet some pretty amazing people along the way who will grow with each other through this new journey.
