The facilities department held a series of press conferences in the fall of 2020 to mark the completion of several projects that were afforded by funds from Measure J. We are excited to unveil these new opportunities to our students in different parts of Oakland. The completed projects include a brand new high school building in deep East Oakland, a new high school building, and renovations to an existing building at a high school in the Fruitvale District. A brand new elementary school building in North Oakland and a new state-of-the-art Central Kitchen project that also includes an urban farm and an educational complex that will serve all of our students in Oakland.
The conferences adhered to strict Covid-19 safety guidelines and practices during the events. While these events celebrated some major accomplishments for the Facilities Department, they were only symbolic in marking some major completions. Due to our current restrictions, we were limited to the number of participants we could invite to the events. We are still planning to have formal ribbon-cutting ceremonies at the project sites once our current restrictions are lifted, we look forward to celebrating these accomplishments with our school staff, parents, students, and the neighboring community.
