Introduction
During times of great uncertainty and seemingly insurmountable challenges coming from all fronts, Oakland has never let up. From the unexpected and unprecedented impact of COVID-19, to the continued assault waged by systemic racism against Black and Brown bodies throughout this country, our resolve has been tested in ways never seen before. Yet time and again, Oakland and our community of schools have risen together, with relentless courage, to face it all with a gritty, determined resilience to step into a better world. It is this spirit - this will - of the people that unites us and continues to move us forward.
That is why we must all work together to adapt and thrive in these challenging times. Working alongside the community, we will seize this moment to build trust, to heal, and to collectively find solutions. Therefore, OUSD is looking for community partners who are able to convene members of the Oakland community to listen and learn about how the first month of school has gone for them and to gather input on the draft strategic plan for the next three years. The proposed plan builds upon student, family, and community feedback, and Oakland’s current mission of building a Full Service Community District by mobilizing the resources and collective energy needed to prepare Oakland youth for college, career, and community. The plan will be framed around three priorities: “Thriving Students - Thriving Schools - Thriving Oakland” to underscore the importance of the interconnectedness between our students, our schools, and our city.
See below for details on how to host a feedback session.
