How can I find books and novels online to read and/or listen to?
If you don't have one, get a Free Oakland Public Library Card HERE
If you are 13 years or older, get a Free Alameda County Library Card.
Resources available with an Oakland Public Library card (or other public library card)*
Popular fiction and nonfiction titles in multiple languages for teens and adults available as e-books and audio books for checkout for up to 21 days. If the book you want is not available, place a hold on it to get on the waitlist. Books can be downloaded to view on Chromebooks, Mac computers, iPads, Kindle, Nook, Galaxy Tab or Microsoft Surface. Get the Libby app to download books to your phone.
Popular fiction and nonfiction books, including thousands of graphic novels, that are always available for checkout. You can download the Hoopla app to read on your device.
This catalog of available e-books includes many European and American authors of traditional “classics,” including: Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, Edith Wharton, Charlotte Bronte, Jane Austen, Frederick Douglass, and William Shakespeare.
