Visual Arts in OUSD
Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) strives to be a place where all children receive relevant, responsive and joyful visual art experiences.
Over 45 visual arts teachers work at elementary and secondary schools to offer robust learning in a variety of Visual Arts forms including drawing, painting, sculpture, digital media and graphic design. A majority of our elementary schools have a certificated arts teacher on staff, or partner with a community based arts organization, to offer hands-on art-making as a tool for creative expression and holistic learning. All of our middle and high schools offer visual arts classes. In addition, many of our high schools have designated Arts Media and Entertainment Pathways that support future careers in creative fields.
