Thank you so much for supporting Oakland students and Bret Harte Middle School library through our Laughs for the Library fundraiser. Everyone who bought tickets, made donations, and helped make the event happen played a vital role in helping us achieve our mission of literacy and equity for all.

Your efforts help us get new books into the hands of excited kids! This project began when our newcomer teacher, Luis Guilin, needed books for his students and came up with the idea. We raised $2560 to spend on new books and we couldn’t be happier. (For some context, an SFUSD school we visited last week with similar student count has a consistent 5k book budget, while our budget is $0).

Teacher-Librarian Lori Sasaki wrote a grant that resulted in a field trip to an Escape Room in San Francisco.... now the students are planning their own Room for the school community. I've heard the theme has to do with a bathroom and Little Red Riding Hood. In addition, students met Mitali Perkins this month and a PEEPS diorama contest will be held the last week of April.
