School Recycling Program:

Cleveland instituted food scrap composting at lunch and promotes recycling on campus. In the year the program was introduced we reduced our landfill by 33% and increased our diversion rate (the percentage going to compost or recycling) to 52%.

Vermicomposting
In addition to the municipal compost we divert fruit and vegetable scraps to our campus worm bin and compost garden and yard waste on site.

Garden Terracing with Reclaimed Lumber and Materials
We conserve water and soil, and divert landfill by using reclaimed materials transforming grounds into usable garden space.

Sheet Mulching
To help soil hold moisture, abate weeds, moderate soil temperature, etc. (divert wood chips and newspaper from landfill) we sheet mulch our garden sites.
