Welcome to the Montera Music Program!
The award-winning Montera Music Program aims to build character through the learning, playing and performing of music, individually and together as a group. We will learn music theory, notation, composition and arranging. Our goal is to develop musical skills, discipline and personal perception as a performer, while building an understanding of the unique and important role that every individual plays in a musical ensemble, be it Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Choir, or Exploring Music. To support our goals we request that students actively participate in class, fulfill their written assignments, practice their instrument at least a minimum of 130 minutes per week and must attend all performances (see calendar).
Concert Attire has CHANGED!
Performers will be required to wear formal black dress attire:
- Male performers: must have black dress pants, black socks and black button-down "dress" shirt.
- Female performers: can wear a black shirt or dress as long as it is knee-length or longer.
- No sneakers or tennis shoes, jeans, jeggins, or sweatwear will be allowed.
Please let your music teacher know at least 2 weeks before the concert if you are having difficulty finding appropriate concert attire, and they will help you.
Support the Montera Music Program!
The Montera Music Program serves over 400 students, with no school budget for instruments and music supplies. Most students who participate in our music program can't afford to rent or buy their own instrument, so we provide instruments to students free of charge!
Donations of any amount are always gladly accepted, as are instrument donations. Make checks payable to "Montera Middle School" with "Music Dept. Donation" in the memo and mail to: Attn: Music Teacher, Montera Middle School, 5555 Ascot Dr., Oakland 94611.
Thank you for supporting the Montera Music Program!!!
